Dancing, music, boats out on the water and a sky filled with fireworks… 🎶💃🚤🎆 But behind all the celebration is something we love even more: a tradition that keeps the soul of Zakynthos alive.![]()

The Varkarola is an old tradition of the Ionian Islands, from the days when people would take to the sea in small boats while musicians and singers filled the evening air with the beautiful sounds of the Kantades the traditional music of the Ionian Islands. 🎶🌙 Voices and music travelled across the water, bringing people together along the harbour and shoreline.![]()
And that is one of the things we love so much about Zakynthos. ❤️![]()

Our island may change, tourism may grow and times may move on, but evenings like this remind us how important it is to hold on to our roots, our music, our traditions and our Zakynthian way of celebrating life. 🇬🇷![]()

And of course, Agios Nikolaos is a very familiar harbour to us at Nefis Travel… it is the harbour we use for our Shipwreck & Blue Caves tours, so seeing it transformed into such a wonderful celebration makes it even more special. 💙![]()

Yesterday, due to the incredible demand for our Above & Beyond Tour, I joined one of our extra departures myself.![]()

And despite knowing Zakynthos so well and having seen these places countless times... I was honestly stunned all over again.![]()

We stood above the world-famous Shipwreck Beach at the panoramic platform BEFORE the crowds arrived.![]()
Later, when the rush at sea had passed, we experienced Shipwreck Bay from the water.![]()
The original Blue Caves & Arches, Maravelia Cave, Sfogio Beach... and that incredible White Beach. 🤍💙![]()
The colours. The cliffs. The water. The scenery.![]()
There are days when Zakynthos simply shows off. 😍![]()
